Italian energy giant Eni has signed an agreement with the Egyptian Electricity Holding Company (EEHC) and the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) for hydrogen production projects in Egypt.
Eni has been present in Egypt since 1954 and operates through the IEOC Production subsidiary. Eni, EEHC and EGAS will study joint projects to produce green and blue hydrogen. Green hydrogen uses electricity produced from renewable energies, while blue hydrogen is made by storing CO2 in depleted natural gas fields.
This initiative is part of the Egyptian strategy of energy transition, diversification of the energy mix and development of hydrogen projects in cooperation with large international companies.
