Sasol and the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) have entered into a Memorandum of Cooperation to jointly pursue the development and establishment of an enabling environment for the promotion of the green hydrogen economy in South Africa.

Joanne Bate, COO of IDC, explained: “Developing the hydrogen industry is a key part of South Africa’s just transition to a carbon-free future. Hydrogen has the potential to decarbonize various industrial sectors. IDC intends to get involved in the development of those catalytic projects necessary for the development of this new industry.

The two entities will collaborate, on a non-exclusive basis, for the promotion, in relevant international forums, of policy frameworks for the development of a hydrogen economy.
