Environment | Algeria: ENI and SONATRACH want to contribute to reducing the carbon footprint

The Italian energy company Eni and the Algerian LNG export terminal operator Sonatrach are joining forces in a pilot project to produce green hydrogen in Algeria to reduce the country’s CO2 emissions. These are the conclusions of a meeting that took place between the two companies on July 7.

The companies have defined a roadmap for the joint assessment of the technical and commercial feasibility of a pilot project to produce hydrogen from electricity produced from renewable sources (solar and wind). was given for the development of said project.

Current projects aim to improve the energy efficiency of processes, the electrification of wastewater treatment plants, the reduction of fugitive methane emissions and the parallel development of projects dedicated to new zero-emission energy solutions.

Note that the Eni company, which has been present in Algeria since 1981, is considered to be the country’s leading international company.
